Iberê Camargo marked his centenary in 2014 with a large retrospective of his work at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in São Paulo, from May onwards. One of the great names of Brazilian abstract expressionism, the artist´s signature works, abstract drawings on paint-saturated canvases, as well as thick line drawings of face-less people.
He studied drawing with Guignard in 1946 by recommendation of Cândido Portinari. And in the following year, he studied painting with Giorgio de Chirico in Rome and engraving with Petrucci.
